Senna is an herb used to make medicine. Senna is an FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) laxative. A prescription is not required to purchase senna. It is used to treat constipation and also to clear the bowel before diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy.
Senna takes about 8 hours to work. It's normal to take it at bedtime so it works overnight. Drink plenty of fluids (6 to 8 glasses a day) while you are taking senna or your constipation may get worse.
Steep 1-2 of dried senna pods in hot water for a maximum of 10 minutes. Strain in a cup and add your favourite sweetener as per taste. Do not have more than twice in one day.
